Dolmar History
Since 1927

    History

This company began as Lerp and Company in 1928 changing to Dolmar in 1929. Around 1975 Fichtel and Sachs became the majority shareholder in the Dolmar company. From 1975 until 1991, the company was called Sachs-Dolmar to indicate this majority holder. Dolmar was the first to manufacture gas-powered chainsaws. Since all of their products are meant for professional use, Dolmar produces heavy duty, durable chainsaws. Beginning in 1927 with the production of the "Type A" gas chainsaw, Dolmar has improved with advancing technology. It was not until 1952 that Dolmar developed a one-man gas powered chainsaw.

Sachs-Dolmar GmbH was bought by Makita Corporation in 1991. Sachs-Dolmar has kept the name Dolmar and continues to produce their high-quality German chainsaws as this take over leads the company into an international market.

The company has continued with improving the Dolmar chainsaw. In 2000 they released a new line of professional chainsaws with a new air filtering system. They also released the prototype of their new 4-stroke chainsaw.

The Dolmar company is committed to keeping production in its German plants. Staying in touch with the latest technological advancements and keeping a highly skilled workforce, Dolmar continues to grow in productivity each year.

The modern chainsaw line includes both gas and electric models so that anyone can find a chainsaw for their particular need.

The Dolmar gas chainsaw line consists of twelve models. The most lightweight model is seven pounds without the bar. It has a 14-inch blade and a 1.9 horsepower motor. This would be ideal for light cutting jobs around the home such as typical brush clearing and annual tree and bush trimming.

The next step up to light and medium cutting needs is the 2.27 horsepower with a 16-inch blade. It is still lightweight at 8 pounds without the bar, and it is suitable for cutting firewood, clearing, and trimming limbs.

For heavier cutting such as felling trees as well as trimming and clearing, on of the higher range sizes of Dolmar chainsaws would serve better. The 4 horsepower model has a 16-inch or 18-inch standard bar with an optional 20-inch blade. It is durable and powerful enough for typical forestry cutting. It is still light enough at 11 pounds to handle easily.

The Dolmar electric chainsaw is also lightweight at 9 pounds. With a 16-inch blade and 15-amp motor, it is rugged enough to cut light to medium jobs such as firewood or limbs.

Dolmar is producing new products every year. Distributors of Dolmar chainsaws can be found across the United States. The web site www.dolmarusa.com can help you find a dealer near you with their dealer locator feature.
